What is the legal minimum tyre tread depth in the UK?
For cars it is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, all the way around the tyre. The penalty is up to £2,500 and three points per illegal tyre. Many experts suggest replacing tyres at around 3mm because grip in the wet falls away quickly below that.
How do I know if I need wheel alignment?
Common signs are the car pulling to one side, an off-centre steering wheel and tyres wearing on one edge. Hitting a kerb or a deep pothole can knock the alignment out too. We can check it and adjust the tracking so your tyres wear evenly and the car drives straight.
Do I need to replace tyres in pairs?
It is best to replace tyres in pairs on the same axle, so grip and handling stay balanced side to side. If only one tyre is damaged and the other still has plenty of tread, a single replacement can be fine. We will check both and give you a straight answer.
